Gadget Lust

Okay, after a fair amount of rethinking and research:
- Canon EOS 40D - reviews are not glowing for the 50D with the increase in sensor pixels showing degradation in quality. Sounds like the 40D is about right.
- Tamron - AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 DI II VC LD Aspheric [IF] Macro Zoom Lens - looks like a great general purpose lens. Will probably sell my Canon 100-400mm lens that rarely leaves the house.
- Panasonic HDC-SD100EBK Full HD Camcorder - tending towards this model over the more expense Canon HF11 as they review about the same.
- Canon PowerShot G10 Digital Camera - Black (14.7MP, 5x Optical Zoom) 3.0 - gorgeous camera for when the DSLR is too big to lug around. Although DPReview only gives it a recommended over the Panasonic LX3. Like the 50D, too much image quality compromised in the more mega-pixels marketing war.
- Lenovo Thinkpad - Probably an X500. Not sure yet, will be selling the MacBook Pro 2.33MHz and replacing with a Thinkpad. Let me know if you're in the market for an Apple.
Sony HDR-TG3 HD Camcorder and Sony eBook Reader
Posted on 03. Dec, 2008
Lusting after these two gadgets:
Sony HDR-TG3E High Definition Camcorder has been out for over 6 months now. It's the smallest HD camcorder on the market and looks to do the job nicely - I want something pocketable for festivals etc. I'd buy one tomorrow, although no doubt a new model will be coming out very soon - wait and see.
Very keen on getting an eBook reader. The Sony PRS-505 at Waterstones looks the go, but for £80 more the PRS-700 with touch screen must be near release in the UK. Might have to wait, although the PRS-505 does look more than sufficient even without a touch screen.

Here's a pic of the Behringer mini-mixer and EQ I have on my desk at the office. I use this to mix the audio from my iPod and laptop into those Bose headphones. The whole setup is fairly low profile and sure beats fiddling with the headphone plug when you want to switch between sources. I find the Bose headphones too bassy for long listening periods - the low-cut in the EQ brings them down to a more comfortable level.
Tom Tom Go 930T Satellite Navigation System

Great, except barely readable in bright sunlight, the Go 910 had a superior screen. Loving IQ Routes. Enhanced Position Tracking feature is very cool, using inertial sensors to track your position when in tunnels or poor GPS reception.

Bose Mobile On-Ear Headset
Posted on 03. Jun, 2008
Headphones for use at work. Deliberately non-noise cancelling. As with all Bose gear, I found the excessive bass fatiguing for long-term use, so I purchased a small graphic equalizer to cut the bass below 125Hz.

The Jawbone is disappointing as it doesn't fit me very well and people complain they can't hear me. I will be selling this.
