Quarterly gadget and book clearout, listings at ebay.co.uk and amazon.co.uk. Several more items to follow. Btw, I'm selling some Fisher & Paykel white goods in Sydney if anyone wants them. They've been sitting in storage for a year now, I may as well get rid of them. Let me know if you want a nice fridge or washing machine.

eBay fraudster frustrations

Posted on 21. May, 2003

Fraudsters on eBay insist on using the pictures of Sony Plasma TVs on my site in their dodgey rip-off auctions. They refer to the image on my server, giving me plenty of time to write something nasty across the image which is entertaining. This particular auction actually claims that the picture is from their living room. What's more amazing as even though this person has multiple negative feedback against their name complaining of fraud, someone still bid $4550 for the non-existent TV.

Buffy Fox Auction

FOX have a number of items from the Buffy set up for auction. The hot item currently at US$2,125 is a tank top and jeans worn by Sarah Michelle Gellar in episode 17 (season 7). I wonder if they've been washed.. sorry I just can't shake the disturbing imagery of the GUY who ends up buying this for dressup's.

BTW, my Buffy Season 6 boxset should arrive today! If you're not a Buffy fan you should probably tune out for the next few weeks as this blog becomes a dumping ground for post-Buffy comments when the show finishes up on May 20th.

Wow, go eBay, I sold all those ununsed gadgets I put up for auction several days ago and got decent bids for everything. I've sold 21 items through eBay over the years, totalling AUD$1803.50 in sales. Great service. I don't want to know how much I've spent through eBay though ;)

Grays are flogging an entire Earth Station and Broadcast Facility in Hong Kong, fully equiped with 14 satellite dishes, backup generators, and racks and racks of cool looking equipment. Hmm, you could setup your own little media world domination centre in there. Check link for lots of pictures inside the facility.

Quarterly Gadget Auction

The semi-regular gadget auction is on again where I clear out old unused junk, so I can buy new likely to be unused junk. You'll notice the D-Link antenna and access point are up for auction, signifying the end of the Sydney Wireless experiment. Also auctioning a Motorola V8088 in the next few days, and considering selling my Minolta Dimage 7i digicam and iPAQ 3870 PDA so I can upgrade to a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and an iPAQ 3970.

"EBay is currently involved in a patent dispute with someone who claims to have patented the idea of online auctions in 1995. EBay believes it has found prior art in a USENET post from 1994."

Auktion beendet

Ah, you've gotta love eBay sometimes, this seller was too lazy to upload or host their own images, instead pointing to images on someone elses web server. Unfortunately for this guy, the owner of the server took offence and decided to modify the images. Excellent! [via MeFi and CM]

Segway Auction

I'm not posting this for the same reason every other bloody blogger is posting it, but rather to point out the interesting market opportunity that exists in specialising in selling products that are very hard to get. For example, importing a newly released gadget, let's say a Bluetooth device, and making it easily available at an absolute premium price to the early adopters weeks or months ahead of official release. One company that does this very well is Japan Direct, they specialise in exporting cutting edge gadgets on a individual order basis to buyers all around the world. Many of these gadgets will either never be sold anywhere but Japan, or are months away from release in other countries. Anyway, something to ponder.

Handcuffs with no key

I dunno, I reckon whoever wins the auction on these will be unable to resist the temptation to test out their new handcuffs, and will then have to have them removed with a hack saw. Amusing.
