Lots of portscan attacks on my home ADSL IP today from 218.0.0.0 – 218.0.255.255, CHINANET Zhejiang province network. Glad I’ve got a nice strong firewall guarding my network, makes me worry about how long I used lower grade personal firewall products and/or packet filtering which provided protection at the last possible point, the machine that is being scanned rather than safely on an external dedicated firewall interface. I wonder if my machine was ever exploited at one stage while using Kerio or ZoneAlarm.. perhaps, I guess I’ll never know for sure. My advice to anyone with a DSL, get a real firewall.

Free Stripped-Down 3D Studio Max

“A division of Autodesk is apparently going to be releasing a free (speech) stripped-down version of 3D Studio Max, geared towards game developers and users. The product is going to be called gMax, and Autodesk might be licencing some customised versions of it to specific game companies.” [via slashdot]
